Factors of Efficiency in Class II Treatment The lecture will highlight the role of individual skeletal maturation (assessed by means of the Cervical Vertebral Maturation -CVM -method) on treatment outcomes in different types of malocclusions as well as the importance of considering patient craniofacial morphology for the anticipation of outcomes of dentofacial orthopedics in Class II malocclusion. The speaker will describe the short-term and long-term results of dentofacial orthopedics in relation to treatment timing and individual craniofacial morphology as derived from over 15 years of clinical investigations. Specific treatment modalities for Class II correction will include: functional jaw orthopedics (twin block, Herbst), molar distalization, fixed appliances and Class II elastics, along with their indications, technical details, and optimal timing. |

Dr. Tiziano Baccetti has devoted 20 years of research work to the study of factors that may play a role in improving the results of dentofacial orthopedics. Dr. Baccetti has used the facilities at both the University of Florence, Italy, and The University of Michigan, USA. Dr. Baccetti has received several international awards for his results in this field of orthodontic research, and he will be the Salzmann lecturer at the AAO Meeting 2011 in Chicago. Curriculum Vitae Dr. Tiziano Baccetti is presently Associate Professor at the University of Florence, Italy, and “Thomas M. Graber Visiting Scholar”, Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry, School of Dentistry, The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He graduated cum laude in Dentistry (DDS) at the University of Florence, Italy, in 1989. He has served the Italian Army as Dental Officer in 1990. In 1996 he achieved a PhD degree in Dental Sciences at the University of Florence, Italy. He has been the winner of the Prize for the Best Poster in Orthodontic Research (First Classified) issued by the Italian Society Of Orthodontics (SIDO), in 1994, and (Second Classified) in 1995. In 1996 he has won the National Prize of the Italian Society Of Orthodontics (SIDO) for the best scientific article. In 2001 Dr. Baccetti has been the recipient of the Henry Goldman Prize issued by the Italian Society of Periodontology, and of the Research Award of The Angle Society for the best paper published on The Angle Orthodontist during the years 2001-2003 (in collaboration with Dr. Francji L., and Dr. McNamara JA Jr). In 2006 Dr. Baccetti has been the recipient of the Joseph E. Johnson Table Clinic Award at the 106th Annual Session of the American Association of Orthodontists in Las Vegas, U.S.A. From year 2007, Dr. Baccetti is an Honorary Associate Researcher at the Department of Orthodontics, University CES at Medellin, Colombia, and a Honorary Member of the Polish Orthodontic Society. He has been Speaker at the Annual Sessions of the American Association of Orthodontists, U.S.A., for the last 12 years. He has lectured at international congresses and symposia on orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics in more than 20 different countries. Dr. Baccetti is Member of the Editorial Boards of the following orthodontic journals: American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Angle Orthodontist, European Journal of Orthodontics (Associate Editor), Journal of Biomechanics, and Progress in Orthodontics. He has been published extensively (more than 100 articles in journals with Impact factor) in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, in the Angle Orthodontist, and in the European Journal of Orthodontics. Dr. Baccetti is a member of the Italian Society of Orthodontics (S.I.D.O.), Italian Society of Pediatric Dentistry (S.I.O.I.), Club International de Morphologie Faciale, European Orthodontic Society (EOS), and World Federation of Orthodontists (W.F.O.). |
